Lower Subscapular Nerve
Nerve Type Motor nerve
Origin Posterior cord of the brachial plexus carrying C5C7 fibers.
Course Emerges in the axilla from the posterior cord, runs inferolaterally on the anterior surface of subscapularis toward the inferior axillary border, and reaches teres major.
Major Branches Muscular branches to teres major and the inferior portion of subscapularis, with occasional small articular twigs to the glenohumeral joint.
Sensory innervation No cutaneous field, providing proprioceptive afferents from teres major and lower subscapularis and possible articular fibers to the shoulder.
Motor innervation Teres major and the inferior part of subscapularis enabling humeral internal rotation and adduction.
