Subacute Combined Degeneration

This refers to degeneration of the posterior and lateral columns of the spinal cord. It is particularly linked to B12 deficiency but can also occur in copper and folate (B9) deficiencies.

Clinical features are weakness, spasticity, impaired vibratory and proprioceptive sensation, extensor plantar responses. One can also get optic neuropathy, erectile and bladder dysfunction, and cognitive effects.
