A myotome is the group of muscles innervated by a single spinal nerve. Many muscles are innervated by more than one spinal nerve root, and therefore consist of multiple myotomes, however some muscles commonly have dominant supply by a single nerve root. Understanding the myotomes is integral for performing an accurate motor system examination.
