| Nerve Type | Motor nerve |
| Origin | Arises from the posterior cord of the brachial plexus carrying C5–C6 fibers. |
| Course | A short axillary branch that travels posteriorly on the anterior surface of the superior subscapularis to enter the muscle near the scapular neck. |
| Major Branches | Muscular branches to the superior portion of subscapularis with occasional small articular twigs to the glenohumeral joint. |
| Sensory innervation | No cutaneous field, providing proprioceptive afferents from the supplied part of subscapularis and possible articular fibers to the shoulder. |
| Motor innervation | Superior subscapularis contributing to humeral internal rotation and dynamic anterior stabilization of the glenohumeral joint. |
