Upper Subscapular Nerve
Nerve Type Motor nerve
Origin Arises from the posterior cord of the brachial plexus carrying C5โ€“C6 fibers.
Course A short axillary branch that travels posteriorly on the anterior surface of the superior subscapularis to enter the muscle near the scapular neck.
Major Branches Muscular branches to the superior portion of subscapularis with occasional small articular twigs to the glenohumeral joint.
Sensory innervation No cutaneous field, providing proprioceptive afferents from the supplied part of subscapularis and possible articular fibers to the shoulder.
Motor innervation Superior subscapularis contributing to humeral internal rotation and dynamic anterior stabilization of the glenohumeral joint.
