Origin Transverse process of first four cervical vertebrae
Insertion Medial border of scapula, between superior angle and root of spine
Action Origin fixed: Scapula elevation, assistance with rotation so that glenoid cavity faces caudally.

Insertion fixed (unilateral): neck lateral flexion and rotation towards same side. Insertion fixed (bilateral): Neck extension
